My Buttered Back Audio

What follows is a flame tanka and gasp it rhymes. 

It also mixes metaphor into a lovely little melange that bites back. 

I wrote it many moons ago. 

So is it about you … probably not … 

Unless you think it's about you.

 And then it is. 

But I'm certainly channeling another poet. 

It's not may fault you have a guilty conscience.

 In short let the merit of your words match your actions 

Or better yet … 

Let the merit of your actions surpass your words.

A seemingly jaded view of maybe compliments and sweet words that may have actually been sincere and heartfelt. Too short to grasp. Almost as if you're afraid of being mean. Tell me, will the knife stab? If so who? Why? This leaves more questions than answers. Glad everyone else gets it. I'm sure it's me. Oh and why would you stab someone trying to be sweet? Is the insincerity that pugnacious? Must be. Wow. Who? Bless your heart! Hugs.

Thank you, Botania. It is short because it is a tanka and as such comes in at five lines … the one doing the stabbing is the one speaking the sweet words … saccharin'd means they are falsely sweet and sugared overly sweet … the individuals words did not match their actions … and they meant to fool and betray. The knife comes from the idiom of stabbing one in the back … thus we get a play on words and metaphors. The piece does require an understanding of certain English idioms. With a tanka the writer lays out the scenario and the reader is meant to come to the conclusion.

Thank you, Botania … I think everyone has an occasion where they say something they don't mean but things like envy and competition can lead that same person to then behave like the character in my poem … it is a side to human nature perhaps we can move away from. And to be honest … I have only a vague memory of the person and the action … I am just pleased it gave me a word fun poem:)
