Strays is a collection of two extended narratives and more than forty love-themed poems, exploring the meaning of romantic love while we have it and attempting to find the healing after its loss. Found within these pages is the short story Gutter Dog, the novelette Ginni, and the poems False Skin, the Boy Who Wore Clothes, and the Black-Wit Reveller.
Well done! I like the casual, resignated feel to it. "The heart's masochistic idiocy" is a truly original and mindblowing image!! The ending line, brutally throws the reader to the ground, where the flapping, wandering mind is faced by the stark, brutal reality. It reaches far beyond the trauma of a fracturing relationship. (To me) it touches on the universal disappointment and resignation, experienced after a hurtful, unfulfilled commitment/devotion.
A great write, Pryde!
“Because these wings are no longer wings to fly
But merely vans to beat the air" T.S.Eliot (Ash wednesday)
We leap without looking so readily, despite the warnings... A sad poem, tinged with a promise; heartbreak mixed with liberation... that's the cycle of love, I suppose... As poetry goes, Pryde, this is top-notch.
I have never experienced a break up in such innocently emotive tones. This is superb love, the heart has fallen in time with these words, everything, everything - is blended within here and I know my review doesn't do this justice but woe hon, blew me away! x
Ive jumped without looking and ended up with two black eyes and a concussion. Having experienced masochistic idiocy in all its painful glory I can truly relate. It isnt pretty...and you feel like a complete idiot afterwards. Sigh....this one was sharp and poignant....made my heart ache.

Thank you, Red. Glad you escaped treatment like that. The heart can lead us astray at times.

Yes it can... damn thing has a mind of its own!! Ha....
I thoroughly enjoyed reading a longer piece from your pen! Such sad beauty you hold within your imagery. You have a distinct voice be it haiku or free verse and it sings of you and of your heart:
Now, I lay in a melancholic ooze
realizing there’ll be no late-breaking portent
my lucky stars, incommunicado
time to wise up and just take his word for it
A wild trip in a relationship with a bad ending. I like the use of the language. Made the reader feel the emotional high and low. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

mmm Pryde ... a very personal poem i sense ... ? ... tragic and horrible the loss and pain ... letting go seems impossible ... but i love Lord Alfred's opine "Better to have loved and lost ...etc " ... my worst case of love and most horrific pain ... not only did i take the dive .. i strapped on a rocket and lit the damn thing .... landing in a fiery heap at the bottom ... but after my long convalescence and healing ... i must admit it was worth it ... will we never learn? sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :}
