Once upon a time, when the land was vast and men were young, dragons roamed the earth. These winged serpents had fire in their hearts. Brave men rode them and bewildered men slayed them. While the brave men created order the dragons began to disappear. As more men became lost, dragons drew nearer to extinction. But the extinction of dragons meant the extinction of Earth's future. So the last of the dragons flew to the four corners of the world. If one discovers and befriends one of these dragons, a great change awaits the world.
This was one of many stories my mother told before bed. Her stories always fascinated me. I wanted to read the stories my father brought home, from tutoring the children of Lord Salazar, but I didn't know how to read. When I was eight years old my mother asked me "Serenity, would you like to learn to read?" I was so excited to start. So everyday since my mother would use what father had for me to read. It was difficult but worth it. When I was 12, after reading the same story she told me, I said to her "When I grow up I'm gonna find a dragon!" She giggled and looked at me with loving eyes and replied "I'm sure you will Serenity. You have a bright future ahead of you." She passed that winter from influenza. My father soon became depressed and a drunk. He lost his job, and gambled away everything including me at only 13. So for 3 years now I've been Lady Salazar's room maid. Well until I read something I shouldn't have and now I am to be executed by tomorrow afternoon. I'm not going out so easy I'm getting out of here tonight.
