My Anchor

My Anchor

A Poem by Prospero

When the echoes of sonic flight died down
And I woke to the faint glimmer of dawn
My only thoughts were thoughts of you
How you made all things seem as new
And the rough crags of life soft as dew

I am in Africa now, here my cord lies
Kept safe and sacred from prying eyes
Casting a gossamer glow across the earth
Echoing our hearts’ beat from breath to breath
Ceaseless in change from birth to death

Only true lovers can give testimony
To the steady drip-away of life, the agony
Of the anchor and the living rudder
That occult space and time rips asunder
So meaningless, it’s hard to surrender

My gift to you is a gift that binds
With your hand in mine and the sun behind
And hope ascending to grandiose peaks
The very air from our long love reeks
As I kiss the air for your dainty cheeks

This is beautiful, soft and romantic. The last stanza is absolutely splendid; adds a nice, final touch to the entire piece.
