My Eyes Follow You Like Your Shadow

My Eyes Follow You Like Your Shadow

A Poem by Prospero

My eyes follow you like your shadow
And like your shadow, I look away
When you turn to see from whence
Came the warm gaze that you feel
Burning holes between your shoulder blades.
I adore you from head to toe
As you come and as you go
All I want to do for eternity
Is to look at you as you wander
Aimlessly between night and day
While I fight to keep the hyenas at bay

I like to walk in the places you walk
Just to feel the dents made by your feet
In the raw muddy earth
Sometimes the insects that bite you
When I watch you scratch, I know
And I follow them to their lair
So they will never bother you again
When my eyes follow you, my nose
Tags along just to catch
A whiff of your fragrant breath
Dancing on the breeze when you laugh

And my ears suddenly start to dance
Because peals of laughter that you break
Open golden gates to heavenly sounds
And oh, such flapping makes a cacophony
That joins my hands to my feet
In a jigsaw of happy dancing
As if the very earth was prancing
That soon my lonely heart, with a sigh
For want of something better to do
Opens up in a warm embrace
And swallows you whole to make you mine.
