a vessel that’s me With ropes, wires and chains I cut the noose, set me loose In a big, wide, open-ended sea Watching you gesticulate From the shore, waving wildly, madly I drift far and further away At my own pace and velocity Ahoy! No bolster, bob or buoy A boat unshackled free Gathering speed, so you recede Growing small, smaller As I grow big, bigger, gleefully Ballooning into my own expanse Filling it with I, myself and me Leaving not a hairbreadth crack To let in the flailing speck of you Hopping, skipping, kicking the wind On the other side of the sea
