An Alien BirthA Chapter by Noir CrescentFreedom of Ignorance
A foggy morning had arrived and picked up the scent of decaying wood, from the stack of mahogany, a silent life had began.
A mesh of fine ebony hair laid on a child-like exterior, squirming like snakes into the bushes on cotton. In sudden moments, the child had awoken itself to being greeted by the pale walls. Like a blind man gaining sight, she meandered through the room with her eyes and like a deaf man gaining sound, she became intoxicated by the voices outside and the noises made within the house. Taking motion, she climbed down the bunk bed and slowly guided herself to the hallway. Every scenery amazed her and every interaction made it more real. Within the mist of her curiosity, a voice seemed to call for her. "Opal, you're awake. Good. Now, go and wash yourself up. Breakfast is ready in the kitchen when you're done." The girl, who did not know who she was, became familiar with the name as she took it as her own. As for the language, she never quite understood them, but she understood their intent and enjoyed the breaks of sound. "Sorry dear, but I'll be leaving early today. I'll also be late home, so find what you can in the fridge to eat." The lady said her goodbye and kissed Opal's cheek before leaving through the towering door. A click sounded from the other side and left Opal in the emptiness of her home. As if she knew where everything was, Opal glided to the bathroom. On the way, she saw a frame with a picture of a man wearing thin black glasses in casual wear, the lady from before in a jolly yellow dress that complimented her light brown hair, a teenage boy wearing a black suit adorned with a red rose, and a girl, she later knew was herself, with a pouting face in a ruffled pink dress. In the kitchen, Opal grabbed a plate of scrambled eggs with broccoli and a cup of apple juice from the countertop and carried it to the living room. The warm frontier greeted her with light from the balcony and a wooly carpet to cushion her steps. To the sofa she went and placed her breakfast as she jumped back into the cushions before reaching for the tv remote atop the magazine from a week ago. The tv flickered on to the weather channel that Opal immediately change to the cartoon channel. The screen was filled with life as animated characters went on fictitious adventures. The day went by and her brother came home noisily with his fellow friends. The tall strangers greeted her with smiles that Opal found kind of disturbing. "Stop scaring my sis every time you guys come over." Her brother commented, coming back from the kitchen with bags of chips and a 24 ounce bottle of Sprite. "Sorry, Joe." The boy with a goatee said. "We can't help it, your sis is just so fun to mess with. Anyways, what are we planning to play today?" The boy with the burnt hand asked as he gestured for the bags of chips. They went on about gaming and constantly changed subjects from school to girls and food to money. This went on until it was dark outside and his friends left. "Damn it. I'm so going to win against you next time, Leonard." "Try all you might, Joseph, but you can't beat this master and his skills." "Guys, I gotta catch the bus, so see ya guys tomorrow" "Bye." Leonard and her brother said as they waved goodbye to the boy with the goatee. "Anyways, I got to leave too. Bye." "Don't forget you're losing next time." "Whatever, man. Bye." "Bye." The father and mother returned, Opal happily welcomed them home as her father patted her head and her mother hugged her. Her brother as per usual, he welcomed them home from the couch. During dinner, the family discussed their day until Opal started to drift to sleep. The day has been new for her and it would become more natural for her later on. Nevertheless, this was the oldest memory of Opal and the first memory of her alien life since she was born. A foreign world yet a familiar one had always greeted life and it is one of the many wonders of life. © 2017 Noir Crescent |
