The QuitterA Poem by PriyashravIt's a simple poem I wrote way back in 2009.I longed to be a wealthy man, A person heaped with the blessings, Of the deities who imbue the worthy, With the essence of fortune, Yet I succumbed beneath, The cravings of the riches, For I was the quitter. I dreamed to be a famous man, A person so widely known and liked, That the saga of his prowess, Expanded beyond the horizons, Yet I had to discard those dreams, I left them behind to rot forever, For I was the quitter. I starved to be an eminent man, A person reaching the heights, No mortal ever ascended to. To inspect from above the lowly beings, Yet I rid myself of the very thoughts, Which cluttered the mind, For I was the quitter. I wished at last be a human, However flawed and failed and filthy, Donning the mantle of purity nonetheless, I knew of the pain I had to endure, But the thoughts of quitting, Never again did crossed my mind, For I was the quitter, but not a coward. © 2011 Priyashrav |
