Abominable Fear.. :(

Abominable Fear.. :(

A Poem by Priyanka Natesh

Fear of being exposed,
of being punished for audacity,
Punished for a weak heart,
for my beliefs and convictions...

Fear of being stripped naked
of flowery dresses and fig leaf dens,
of nervous breakdowns and threats,
and hostility for life...

Fear of being caught,
of being choked by nightmares,
of lifetimes filled with guilt unknown,
and of the death of happiness...

Fear of losing loved ones,
of this life of a puppet,
of not following my heart,
of a wavering mind...

I am sick of this nausea,
of the hard lumps all the time,
i feel like running away from them,
but my courage keeps failing me...

The fear is fresh,
and each time it hurts,
I'd rather quit socializing,
and shrink back into my safety recluse...

Author's Note

Priyanka Natesh
I had written this poem in a fit of panic for something i did and believed in but couldn't gauge the society's narrow mindedness...it is so frustrating to want to do something but not able to put your foot down and speak...fear...*shudders*...when can i stand on my own feet...?

I love the deep honesty and perspective of this one. I think that’s what is so cool about sharing poetry and other writings on here; we really get introduced to such a vast range of works by other writers who we realize are feeling the same sentiments about life and our places in the world. What I really love about this one is that you’re not afraid to take your poetry to darker places. I think on two fronts you could say that great poetry is fearless and secondly we can't understand the darker parts of our worlds unless we go there and try to understand.

The fear is fresh,
and each time it hurts,
I'd rather quit socializing,
and shrink back into my safety recluse...

I love the final stanza! I feel that same feeling overtake me more and more lately. The closed mindedness of the masses and the constant hate and misunderstanding that exists throughout the world, really just makes me want to leave society and go live as a mountain man, cut off from everything.

Every single fear we have, puts us in a little shell. Its not your fault that you've developed these fears, its actually the world who has to be blamed for this. Great write. Amazing work.

The world can make us crazy. Easy to want to escape and want to find peace. I like the emotion and the desire of this poem. I feel the same way sometimes. I want to roam away and find a private place to rest and gather my thoughts. I like the language and ending. A outstanding poem.
