Fireflies

Fireflies

A Poem by Tom Friel

Ever notice

How ideas

Bounce back and forth

Like fireflies

At a country dance

On a night

Where the sky is alive

And children are

Running back and forth

Clutching their jars

Hoping to catch

One of those elusive

Fireflies

The ones that dance

Free and easy

To the music

Called night

Only to be caught

Unprepared

By small hands

That grab and seal

Their fates

Into some old glass jar

Where their lights

Will flicker and fade

All too soon
