Rest... in peace?

Rest... in peace?

A Poem by Tom Friel

He didn’t want to be cremated
He knew too much
He knew things others didn’t
He knew cremation involved
Moving the remains around
As they burned
He knew some parts
“Just don’t burn”
As easily as others
No matter how much you
Stoked the fire
You’re still left to
Crush the pieces
Until they’ve been ground down
Into mostly ash
“Not exactly a peaceful exit”
Calm words he spoke
(Morticians are like that)
A simple encounter
With a man who buries people
Will now burn forever within
Leaving previous decisions in ashes
Uncertainty cannot be crushed
Only one thing is certain
Death is death

Buried or burned
