At The Zoo

At The Zoo

A Poem by Tom Friel

“Someone told me it’s all happening at the zoo, I do believe it, I do believe its true.”

          - Simon & Garfunkle

Some call me reactionary
Some call me imaginary
Wars are always so contrary
Peace today is so damn scary

Take the train to democracy
Excuse unsightly poverties
Someone's stealing liberties
America what's become of thee

At the zoo, do, do, do, dooo,
Do, do, do, dooo
At the zoo, do, do, do, dooo,
Do, do, do, dooo

Come see George swing and sway
He likes to bully and get his way
Dick’s out of his cage today
He’s got a gun it's time to pray

Guantanamo Bay's is no cafe
The animals are throwing trays
Sammy's feet are stuck in clay
Drip by drip they will obey

At the zoo, do, do, do, dooo,
Do, do, do, dooo
At the zoo, do, do, do, dooo,
Do, do, do, dooo

Everyplace is getting hotter
No one’s getting any smarter
Sarah's shooting polar bears
Those in charge don't seem to care

Today's the day we clean the cages
Finally we turn the pages
Everywhere there's so much poo
Goodbye George this one's for you

At the zoo, do, do, do, dooo,
Do, do, do, dooo
At the zoo, do, do, do, dooo,
Do, do, do, dooo
