ebb tide

ebb tide

A Poem by Tom Friel

nothing is that simple
swirling in each and every frosty glass
along a barren shore of emotions
succumbs a night
soon to be swallowed
by the great sea of loneliness
whose deep waters carry away
all that’s left of the real you
leaving behind neon lights
and empty glasses
a conflicting gravitational pull
constantly struggling
as you stumble along
still wishing
that the moon

was your friend
