Four Eyes

Four Eyes

A Poem by Tom Friel

He sipped, feeling incognito
Behind his sharp studious eyes
He had seen enough to know
A look was better than a lie

Unchallenged by his new demeanor
He felt focused by this subtle change
Instantaneously he was smarter
Dare he risk some interchange?

Surely she must be smitten
By his steady gaze and easy nod
“Nice glasses four eyes”, she quipped
How’d she know he was a fraud?

Haha, this is adorable. Why is it that people feel that someone who wears glasses is more studious than one who does not wear them? That stereotype is one of the most interesting that I have stumbled across and have been a victim of (although I will claim that I have a nerdy, yet endearing intelligence, if I do say so myself!).

Anyway, I love the sing-song banter that this poem portrays. It's extraordinarily fitting and makes the poem itself come full circle and overall, a fun read. Great job!
