A Tasteful Torte

A Tasteful Torte

A Poem by Tom Friel

With cuts of beef
and sauces made,
this evening’s surprise
would now be made.
A torte most delicious,
divine to the taste.
Skillfully measured,
there would be no waste.

A recipe
from the heart,
he knew it well.
A pinch from the past,
who could tell?
A tablespoon of truth,
oh, what the hell.
He hurried quickly,
no time to dwell.

Guests arrived,
drinks were served.
Little Miss Gossip
made herself heard.
The Critic always bloated,
obnoxious and smashed,
tore the meal apart
without any class.

A first...
just a cough,
then choking began.
Inhaling the torte,
doomed the big man.

A torte most delicious,
divine to the taste.
Justice was served,
there would be no trace.
