Guilt

Guilt

A Poem by Tom Friel

Such a powerful drink
This chalice of shame
Sipping one's blood
In God's ancient game
Kneel in your sin
Bow to your Lord
Unanswered prayers
Rest in your sword

The stains on your sleeve
You wear once again
Your drink overflows
With fairweather friend
Pray now to who?
The Lord knows thyself
Drown as you kneel
To hell and to health
