Grandma's Day

Grandma's Day

A Poem by Tom Friel
"

I wrote this one a few years ago when my beloved Grandmother was soon to be celebrating her 100th birthday. Grandma went on to celebrate 3 more birthdays before she passed.

"

It’s been many moons
since Mary C
heard her wedding vows.
Nothing since,
has created more stir
than this blessed event,
that we will witness now.

Relatives unknown to each other,
cousins who now look like their mothers,
all gather here today to pay tribute
to the Queen Mum,
for this, is her day.

For years she remembered us all.
Every graduation and birthday,
a card would be sent,
and a little something
would be tucked inside.

For her, family was precious.
Every grandchild,
every great-grandchild,
her love knew them all.

As she sits in her chair today
we see her smile in every way.
On the faces of both young and old,
cherishing the woman,
whose love will never grow old.

Today a mass will be said
for the matriarch that heads
this family that gathers to pray.
God bless you and keep you
you know we all love you,
Happy Birthday Grandma!
For today is your day.
