Our Father

Our Father

A Poem by Tom Friel

Defiance, denial,
caustic and vain,
so long he's carried
this cynical chain.

What leads him to kneel
in this torn weathered pew?
Dare he ask to forgive?
Dare he ask what to do?

Torn is his faith,
shared with his guilt.
Castaways in spirit,
can the lost be rebuilt?

Alone in this church
he murmurs a prayer
He prays for an answer,
he feels someone there
