A Bit of You

A Bit of You

A Story by JillyBean
"

A short story about how you will do anything for a scrap of attention from the person you love.

"
"You know, I don't think I'd feel any more like a w***e if you left money on the table," she said as she sat up in the bed. He paused, holding his shirt in his hands.

"Abby, I told you, I have work in the morning."

"Oh, am I Abby again? A few minutes ago I was Melissa."

"Abby, don't be like that."

"Ben, I don't think I can do this anymore."

"I know. This is the last time, I promise. I won't come back except as a friend. Like we used to be."

"Ben, you say that every single time."

"Then why do you let me in? Why do you let me do this to you? It's hurting you, Abby."

"You don't really care about that. If you cared about me being hurt, you never would have started using me like this. And you know why I let you. I love you, and even if it's just as a stand in, a little bit of you is almost better than nothing. At least I thought it was. But it's not enough, Ben."

"I love you too. I really do."

"You don't love me. You love my face. My sister is married, Ben. We have the same face, but we're two different people. You and I both know that what we're doing will never work."

"I promise I'll-"

"Shut up, Ben. Just shut up and get out of my apartment. Don't come back." Ben finished dressing and left. Abby locked the door behind him. She started crying silently because he would be back and she wouldn't refuse him. Even knowing how much it would hurt, she would let him in again. After all, she did love him.
