Grandpa

Grandpa

A Poem by Nikki
"

I wrote this at my grandmother's request, and read it at my grandfather's funeral.

"

Carry me through my sorrow,
Carry me through my pain,
Carry me through my saddness,
And this trip down memory lane.

We seem to take the little things for granted,
But miracles happen every day,
A smile or laugh from Grandpa,
Made me consider it another way.

Among the richest men I've ever met,
Though money was not his wealth,
He was rich with loyalty and friendship,
And love among everything else.

Yes, he was funny and GOOFY,
But those were some of his best traits,
But he wouldn't have been the same loveable guy,
If he would have been more straight laced.

Life's lessons are taught by those we love,
But not all as special as he,
I cherish the time we spent together,
Just Grandpa J & me.

No time to say I love you,
No time to say goodbye,
Just one simple prayer,
And then away he'll lie.

Grandpa watch over us in heaven,
Help us make the right choices,
Help us remember your spirit,
And sing your rejoices.

We love you!

Your poem is so good and touching I'm freaking crying over here in the middle of my school library! XD I have nothing to criticize, nothing to comment on, only to say that this is one of the best poems I've ever read and that if every single one of your poems were like this, you could be one of the most famous poets ever. Keep up the good work!
