Who Is This?

Who Is This?

A Poem by Fiona C

Who is this I see in the mirror

  Looking back at me?
    Could it be?
Barely recognisable as someone to love.

      A face ravaged by sadness
    Love withdrawn
  Aged with disappointment
All lines telling their story

Mouth down turned with sorrow
  Past hurts buried
In the line of a frown
      Etched indelibly

      Tear streaked cheeks
    Shining with pain
  Loneliness and surrender
Of the inevitable solitude

But beyond the eyes
  Into the soul
    Burning fires of love shine
      Begging for release

      So free the passion
    And the pain
  Love me
Make me whole again!

I love the form you wrote this in. I learned something. It drew me in just by the way you presented it. I understood your emotion and the form really helped me feel it. I really love this piece!

This is my favorite part making reference that you are not only whats on the outside if you one looked deep they would see your soul crying for release! two snaps girl I love this

Powerful flow of emotions in the poem. The strong description brought to life the desire of sadness and regret. I did like the hope in the end. Best way to repair a broken heart. Is to learn what love can be. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

A wistful, yet incredibly beautiful poem. I loved the imagery, and the theme that you conveyed.

Great imagery and tone!! Really love the lay out!! It keeps the eye flowing. However I hope this feeling invoked in this poem has passed on to greater things!!

Harsh judgement towards the person you feel yourself to be. Could we be three? The person you see. The person others see. And the real person. Sad but lovely composition here.

I think women judge themselves much more harshly then other people do. Why don't men do that? strange culture we live in sometimes.

This is the first time I have read one of your works, yet it did not take long for your words to resonate with me on the deepest level. Many times have I taken that look in the mirror and often I don't even recognize who I'm looking at. But there is always hope, as there is in your final lines here. A powerful and unabashed declaration of emotion, which is what poetry is meant to be.

I love the style and form~the look of it! Aging and not knowing who you have become...wishing for more out of life. The disappointments showing up on your face in the form of changes in appearance that you do not want. Wondering where time went and wanting it back! Regrets etched in your skin. Well said and felt.

I started writing in August having never been interested in or even looked at poetry before! My writings come from my emotions (mostly) and I find it cathartic to put words to paper. Thank you for.. more..
