To My Boyfriend Who Cheated On Me

To My Boyfriend Who Cheated On Me

A Poem by Princess3Morag

I am not a petty person, I can forgive

I am glad for our love, even if shortlived

I have stopped ripping up your pictures

And no longer listen to ballad mixtures

You have ceased to make my blood boil

My head is no longer in a state of turmoil

I’m thinking of you less and less

Even forgetting your face, I guess

The times we had sure were fun

But if you ever stop by again…

My dad will be waiting with a shotgun

That was really quite ingenious, you have a real talent for twists at the end of your poems. I loved the way you described the transformation of love, to heartbreak, to fury to regret and at last to a state where you feel almost gleeful at the thought of revenge. Brilliant poem.

The last line reminded me of my own father. Very good, I enjoyed this thoroughly.

Oh wow what an ending. I guess he won't be coming over for dinner any time soon. It is good when the heart finally mends and allows us to move on in peace. I like the transition you have in this poem. Nice work.
