sleep tonight

sleep tonight

A Poem by Kaitlin Siobhan

the lack of stars tonight

and the absence of a sky

has left me up so late

and calls me to sleep too early

i'm half awake

like a vampire, half alive

but i crave a bit of both worlds

to bathe in sunlight

and dance on a moon

but tonight the world changed

a place without a light

and only bits of freezing rain

call themselves my company

they're enemies, i know,

set to turn me into stone

and with each yawn, a gasp for air

i know which battle's won

turns out, i'm dancing on the wrong side

with soldiers who wish for a speck of star light

and dream of an indigo sky
