Go To: preciousprodigal.com - - - - - John 20:14 “she...saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.” It was Resurrection Sunday, but the women at the sepulcher didn’t know that. They thought it was over and were coming with ointments to prepare Christ’s body for burial. John 20 tells us that some of the women went to the tomb, and when they saw that Jesus’s body was gone, they ran back to tell the disciples. Mary Magdalene was one of those women. Mary Magdalene had been possessed by seven demons. (Mark 16:9) The compassionate eyes of our Savior had looked beyond her wild eyes, disheveled hair, and the ranting and insanity, and He cast the demons out and healed her. No wonder she became a faithful follower of her Rabboni...her teacher. Committed, forgiven, and completely devoted to Christ, her loss must have been devastating. When she saw that Jesus’s body was not there, she ran to tell the disciples and then returned to the tomb with them. I have to wonder why they didn’t tell her Jesus had risen since the Scripture tells us one of them saw the linen cloths and believed. (John 20:8) But I don’t need to wonder why she didn’t realize what had happened. Regardless of what we may think we know or what victories we have experienced in the past, we forget all that when the roof falls in, don’t we? When our hearts are overwhelmed with grief or loss or fear, when it seems there is no hope, we sometimes can’t see what’s standing right in front of us. That’s what happens to us, and that’s what happened to Mary. When the disciples left to tell the others what had happened, Mary remained behind and stood outside the tomb weeping. When she finally stooped to look inside the tomb, she saw two angels, who asked her why she was crying. She told them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I don’t know where they have put him.” Then Jesus himself asked her why she was crying and who it was that she was looking for. She thought Jesus had been taken away, but He was standing right there the whole time. She just couldn’t see Him through her tears. But is that so very different from you and me? She thought it was the gardener. She was wrong. She thought there was no hope. She was wrong. She thought it was the end. She was wrong. What she thought was the end was only the beginning. I don’t know what you might be facing today. For the Moritz house, it’s already been a tough year. But I don’t have to ask where my Savior is. He’s right here even if I can’t see him because of my fear, my broken heart, or my tears. His part is to show up; my part is to trust that He’s done that whether I can see Him or not. The beautiful words of “God is Here” by Karen Clark Sheard say it all: "He is here, God is here To break the yoke and lift the heavy burden He is here, God is here To heal the hopeless heart and bless the broken. O come lay down the burdens you have carried For in the sanctuary God is here" Your burdens may be overwhelming, and it may be all you can do to just keep putting one foot in front of the other. You might even be asking yourself, “Where is God in this situation?” May I gently remind you that He is where He’s always been…right there beside you…even if you can’t see Him through your tears. I urge you to “Come lay down the burdens you have carried” and rest in Him. Challenge for Today: What might happen if we, just for today, remembered that God is there even when we can’t see Him through our tears?
