Girl Child

Girl Child

A Poem by pragya gaur
"

A woman goes through many fotecides...My poem is just to convey importance of a girl

"
Perfect synonym of a pearl,
Yes m talking about a girl.
Daughter, sister and wife,
Plays all roles in one life.
Sacrifices for others ,
Adjusts in every circumstances,
Does all her duty perfectly,
Then why at the end she is lonely?
They pray goddess Lakshmi for wealth,
They pray Kaliiji for good health,
They pray Goddess Saraswati for knowledge,
Then why do they hesitate to have,
One such in their home?
Each day a girl is raped,
You tell girls to wear properly,
Why don't you tell boys to behave properly?
Girls are killed before and sometimes after birth,
She is considered as a pressure around,
Tell me one thing males if females are not there,
Who will give birth to your next generations?
Bulshit are those who think females should be confined to kitchens,
Tell me this if they are not educated,
Who will get your kids educated?
On rakshabandhan Who is gonna tie love on your wrist?
Whom are you going to tease when in stress?
A girl is not waste it's a worth,
Preserve them, respect them

The most interesting part of your poem is the way you start out using gentle tones & then your ire gradually gets worked up to the point where the last half your poem sounds fierce. I'm always aware of this "difference" in the USA, looking at TV news with business & politics being conducted by mostly white males. But I think your poem shows a much more harsh "difference" unknown in my part of the world. It's always good to find out how the rest of the world lives. I love the details you use to help us know your culture . . . things are written about in a way where the meaning is clear, even for things I'm not familiar with. I love the righteous indignation toward the end. ((((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks a lot for read and review
yes, there is a terrible double standard ...it works both ways---not just one.
this is clever, but unfortunately too true and very sad...shades of Sylvia Plath here...played the subservient woman''s role..but in the end, resented being typecast into that role..and felt totally underappreciated---already unstable to begin with..this contributed mightily to her downfall.

Wow! Strong and to the point Pragya:)
I absolutely support this and am against unwritten rules discriminating women.
Your poem expressed it well and true.
Great work!

Thank you so much Neetha ji
Female infanticide...dowry...rape...totally despicable words. All true things penned down. Voices like yours stand out from the crowd. Well done. Keep spreading such wonderful and motivational messages!

Women are the stronger sex, all smart men know this. I always objected when I stood my ground or voiced my unpopular opinion and was told I had big "balls". As they are the most vulnerable part of either sex, why is that a compliment? I have huge ovaries, gentlemen, I'm a woman, the stronger sex. Acknowledge and respect. You piece does clearly state the value of a girl, who will grow up to be the bearer of your heirs and the backbone of your families. Time for you to recognize! Good job. I don't know your country of origin, but your talk of killing them before and after birth is heartbreaking and tragic.
