Beneath Their Feet

Beneath Their Feet

A Story by Queen Of Words
"

Dr. Amelia Stone leads an expedition into the Amazon, uncovering a lost tribe’s power. She must decide: Loose all her efforts or protect humanity

"
"Here I go" Dr. Amelia Stone whispered to herself as she stepped out, into the wildness of the amazon rainforest, along with her colleagues. After few miles of treating, they tossed their luggage down, Sat on a huge rock. Siera passed everyone water and suddenly, Mark stood up and said

"I'm going to see how long the camp is from us." And he stood up. Amelia nodded and checked the map with Nelson, their local guide who knew the forest like the back of his hand.

The journey into the heart of the rainforest was adventurous. Dense

vegetation, unpredictable weather, and the ever-present hum of wildlife

surrounded them. Siera swore that she heard a roar near them once, but they did not face any creature eye to eye except those mosquitoes that kept bothering them. But the possibility of a monumental discovery buried

beneath their feet kept their spirits high. After several hours of trekking,

they found themselves patching tents and hammocks.

Siera stretched her arms and said

"After such a long hike, all I want now is to lie and relax for the whole day."

"But we can't, can we? We are on a huge mission! Brace up people! We've always dreamed of today, right?" Mark replied energetically

"Yeah. I wanted to go on an important recovery, but not a never-ending hike!" Seira said, looking annoyed.

"I agree, but this is going to be the discovery of a century! We must not give up so easily! Right, Nelson?" Amelia said, without tearing her eyes away from her journal, where she wrote all about their mission.

An unsure Nelson replied, "umnn?. I guess."

Dr. Amelia Stone was a very well-known archaeologist and highly praised in the world of archaeology for her precise approach and amazing discoveries. With years of fieldwork across the globe, her reputation was as solid as the

ancient ruins she often excavated. However, nothing excited her

more than the recent findings that suggested the presence of an

undiscovered tribe deep within the heart of the Amazon rainforest.

Legend has it that this tribe possessed the knowledge beyond human imagination- They had the power to control nature herself! The mountains would move for them, the water in rivers would pave way for them and the clouds provided enough rain for them. But they demanded more. This made nature angry and she cursed them by causing a series of floods, earthquakes and forest fires.

But recent investigations showed that their remains were still preserved beneath the surface.

After months of preparation, Amelia and her team set out on them

Expedition.

A riddle was found etched upon a giant rock that has fallen during a recent storm. When translated with the help of historians and local people, it read

"Towards the suns first rays

A precious treasure lays

On top of the world,

A clue lay

"I know!" Nelson yelled so loud that they were afraid it might be a wild animal's cry.

"It's the angelim trees! They are very tall, so they could be 'On top of the world' ! They are also present towards the suns first rays, that is east. "

"I guess it does make sense!" Amelia replied, shutting her journal shut and standing up.

"What are we waiting for, crew! Let's go!" Mark replied energetically, as Siera groaned and Nelson nodded.

Approximately, within 2 hours, the crew reached the tree. Mark climbed it and he let out a loud "Whoa! YES!" that they were afraid that he would fall!

He climbed down and said "there was a scroll there! I think this is our clue! The last one!

Nelson starred at it and after what seemed like forever (Siera said this a multiple times) He smiled and said, "I think I cracked it! Follow my lead!"

After a quite refreshing hike (As Mark would say) They reached a cave. Nelson guided them in the pitch black as Amelia lit a torch.

Soon, they found a curtain of ivy. They pushed it aside to find a beautiful room, filled with cave paintings and a dim light, pink by the evening.

Sierra tripped and fell. Amelia quickly, helped her up as Mark investigated the cause of her fall.

"It's a fossil! The remains! We did it!"

The team erupted into cheers, as nelson put on a proud smile. Siera sighed with relief (Ah! No more treks!)

"I'll call headquarters and let them know the fabulous news!" Amelia replied, adjusting her glasses.

As they began their dig, the artefacts they

revealed were different from anything they had ever seen before. Those

designs and symbols suggested a highly advanced civilization. Amelia's

excitement grew with each passing day.

One evening, as the team gathered around the campfire, Amelia noticed

Mark and Siera exchanging glances. Siera was pale and disconnected to their cheerful conversation. She dismissed it, but a nagging feeling was present. The next morning, Amelia was called to a deeper section of the excavation site. Mark and Siera stood by a newly

uncovered stone tablet, their faces pale and gloomy.

"Amelia, you need to see this" Mark said, pointing to the tablet covered

in mysterious symbols. Siera handed her a translated version.

As Amelia read the translation, her mind raced. The tablet spoke of

immense power, knowledge of the elements, and the ability to control

nature itself. It warned of the chaotic consequences if this power fell into

the wrong hands.

"This cannot be real" Amelia could barely muster a whisper, barely audible as she looked as if she has seen a ghost. This was all she wanted but something inside felt wrong. She dropped the tablet which fell on the mud with a thud.

Siera nodded. "We?. We did expect you to be a bit dramatic." Mark nodded. "I've cross-checked the symbols. It's a match.

Amelia shook her head. She did not know what to say.

Siera looked disturbed. "We need to consider it, Amelia. This is beyond

an archaeological find. It's potentially world-altering".

Amelia froze. She saw a vision of the word finding about their discovery.

It led to a global madness, with governments and individuals plotting

control.

Amelia gulped. As soon as she found her voice, she decided to step in

and take control. "We need to halt the excavation" Amelia said her voice

bolder and louder than before, but still shaky. "We cannot risk this information leaking out. Pack everything up and ensure that we don't leave a trace. There must not be a single piece of evidence."

Reluctantly, the team agreed. They began the process of covering them

tracks and erasing signs of their presence there. Everyone was sad, with

a mixture of disappointment and unease.

Back at the base camp, Amelia gathered her main team. "I know this is

hard for all of us, but it's the right thing to do. It must be done. We can't let this power be misused."

Just as she finished her speech, the camp erupted in laughter. Mark and

Siera revealed that the entire situation had been a carefully crafted

prank. They had orchestrated the false discovery of the tribe to test

Amelia's judgment.

"Congratulations, Amelia! You passed with flying colors" Mark said, still

chuckling.

Amelia stared in disbelief. You mean... this was all a joke?
