In the Waters Deep

In the Waters Deep

A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

In the waters deep
Where the mermaids dwell
Lacking air, a suffocation
Trapped in a private hell

Light shines on the surface
She reaches out her hands
Both sides caught in this moment
A battle to the end

Though the two are swimming
She can't make out a face
Yet a harmony is playing
She follows in its pace

Her heart, rapidly beating
Very rhythmic in the tone
Each part, a coexistence
She hears the metronome

A piano then starts playing
She imagines every key
As she feels the full vibration
Of both black and ivory

And the passion stirs inside her
The fire begins to grow
What started out so softly
Has become fortissimo

The Orchestra starts playing
Both mermaids start to swaying
Moving backwards, forward
Moving to and fro

A dance for all the ages
Locked inside the pages
Set the stage, and play
Until the curtain falls -

Two sides...
Two sides; in harmony...

Unite
Unite; and become free
