A Story by Leviathus Fortes

SCENE 1

One night, a star fell from the sky...

SCENE 2

A little boy came running across the field to where the star had crash landed.  The star had tears in its eyes.

SCENE 3

"Little star," the boy asked "why are you crying?"

The star sniffled as it wiped the tears from its eyes.

"I have fallen from the sky.  Soon my light will fade and I will no longer be."

SCENE 4

"But that's what stars do," said the little boy

"I want to be back in the sky where everyone looks upon me.  I had a purpose then.  Now, there is nothing."

SCENE 5

"That's not true," said the little boy.  "You did serve a purpose."

"I did?" asked the star.

"You did" said the boy.

"What purpose does a fallen star serve?" the star asked, while wiping its nose on its arm.

SCENE 6

"When you see a falling star, you make a wish."

"A wish?" the star asked "Why?"

"It gives someone hope" said the boy.  "It keeps their faith alive.  Faith against things that are beyond their control."

"It does?" asked the star

"Yes," the boy explained "stars fall all the time. It's a beautiful thing to see."

SCENE 7

"Have you ever wished upon a star?"

"Of course I have," said the boy.

"What did you wish for?" asked the star.

"My little sister was sick and not getting any better.  I wished upon a star, so that she may live another day."

SCENE 8

"Did your wish come true?" asked the star.

"I don't know yet" said the boy "but I come out here every night and gaze into the sky."

"You watch to see them falling?"

"Every single chance," the boy replied.

SCENE 9

The star smiled at the boy and then turned its head upward to gaze into the night sky.

"If I could wish upon a star, I'd wish just one thing: Imagining one's heart and the joy that I could bring.  A very noble cause to give and to do so selflessly, to trade your life to save another, to set another free."

SCENE 10

"That's a purpose" said the boy "and it always shall hold true."

"What star did you wish upon?"

"The star I wished upon..."

SCENE 11

"was you."

SCENE 12

A smile came across the star's face as tears rolled down its cheeks.  The little boy wrapped his arms around the star and they both shared a hug.

"Thank you for this gift," the boy said.

"No, thank you," said the star.  Then it closed its eyes and wrapped him tightly as its light did fade away.

SCENE 13

The boy picked up the star and carried it inside.  He walked up to a crib and laid the star next to his little sister's head

SCENE 14

She started crying, something she'd not done in quite a while.  Then the little boy looked upon the star

...and on his face he wore a smile.
