Pajama Party

Pajama Party

A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

The polar bears green underwear had neither spots nor stripes
Penguins waddled in nightshirts carrying marshmallows
The Walrus in the nightcap brought along a stick

Tiger cubs wearing gloves
Elephants in sweats
Monkeys in wool sweaters
Giraffes wearing nightgowns

And so late into the evening
Tummies rumbling loud
Sat every animal around the campfire
Waiting patiently

A snake brought a basket down
Filled with crackers made of graham
Some plain, some sugar; cinnamon
For all who had gathered ground

A pot of water boiling
The ostrich had brought tea
Zebras and baboons
Showed up to join the group

The party had now started
The s'mores were being made
As all sat in pajamas
And laughed their cares away
