A pea

A pea staring back at me

The only thing I see

Is a pea

Just a pea

It seems we have a standoff

We simply can't agree

Once you're gone

We are done

And I finally will be free

Will I have my cake

And eat it too?

I have uncertainty

So I sit here

And I stare

At a pea

At a pea

And as I am sitting

I do so relaxingly

A pair of eyes pop open

Then very creepily

A smile comes across its face

And most suspiciously

Runs its tongue across its teeth

Ok...

Seriously?

As I sit there staring

A thought comes over me

I get an eerie feeling

The pea is staring back at me!

How long has it been watching?

Of that I can decree

Ever since I ate his friends

He was waiting patiently

Waiting for this moment

When just us two that it would be

It appears I'm in a showdown

With a pea

WITH A PEA!!

His demeanor is to crack wise

But I'm not one for levity

Then its mouth begins to open

And, oh so, unpleasantly

It says

"I'm gonna eat 'cha, before you can eat me"

This thing's become a monster

But it's a pea

JUST A PEA!!

I'm trapped inside its shadow

It's standing over me

And it's growling and it's slurping

Can this truly be?

That this becomes my ending?

I don't think so

Not for me

Bested by a veggie

By a pea

By a pea?

I admit it is unnerving

Yet, I guarantee

I will win this showdown

Never will I flee

 So I gather of my courage

And the fork laid next to me

I swing towards my target

The one and ONLY pea

Direct Hit!

Now it's sitting

So very steadily

Waiting to be consumed

Whistling a melody

Then I come to a conclusion

And then I finally see

Vegetables aren't evil

In fact, they're good for me

All of this to have some cake?

It's a pea

It's just a pea...
