Moonlight Baby

Moonlight Baby

A Story by Leviathus Fortes

One night Katie was laying in bed, but she couldn't sleep.

She saw a baby dragon crawl by her bed.  Katie got up and followed the dragon.  It stopped, looking out of the window at the moon.  The dragon was in awe of its glow.

She heard a rattle and then felt her room shake.  It stopped and all was calm.  She paused, looking around in confusion.

Then... it happened again.

Her ears spotted what it was, the sound of a door rattling.  Katie knew exactly where it was coming from.

Katie leapt from her bed and rushed to her closet and flung open the door.  Raising her hand to the top shelf, Katie brought something down.  It was a memory box.  She excitedly ran back to the dragon and opened the box.

She pulled out something that looked like a flat rock, but it wasn't.  Katie had found this odd looking rock while walking along the beach one evening.

Being a collector of oddities, she decided to take it home and place it where all of her special things went.  Her memory box.

There was something special about this rock.  It glimmered as the moon's light fell upon it.  Then, it started to change colors.  The more it glimmered, the more colors it had.

This confused Katie, as it had only ever done that when she'd wash it.  She'd just assumed that it was the soap bubbles that had made the rainbow of colors.

The dragon began glowing too, much in the same way that the item was doing in Katie's hand.

The window in Katie's room blew open and a mist entered.  The dragon began to go up, up, up in the air, almost to the ceiling.

The item in Katie's hand flew into the air and clung to the dragon and the brightest flash of color filled her room.

The dragon began singing as puffs of smoke came from its nostrils.  The singing got louder and louder.  But it wasn't coming from the baby dragon.

The mist slowly exited from Katie's window.

When the mist disappeared there were two more dragons outside.  Two very big dragons.  They continued on as the baby dragon flapped its wings and joined in the song.

Katie just stood baffled at the sight.

The baby dragon turned to Katie and flew over to her.  The dragon hugged her goodbye and then flew out of the window and away with the other two dragons.

Katie watched the dragons as they flew away into the distance until she could no longer make out their images.

She closed her window then set her memory box on her bedside table.  Katie yawned and then slipped back under the covers on her bed.  She rested her eyes and went to sleep.

Now you'll see Katie walk all around town and on the beach as well.  Searching for another rock that could be a dragon scale.
