The Man in the Cloud

The Man in the Cloud

A Story by Leviathus Fortes

There's a man up in the sky.  I spotted him one day.  He was laying back, reclining, with a smile upon his face...

The man in the cloud

In the skies that are so blue

Is a man in the cloud

Watching everything we do

He sees us when we're happy

He sees us when we're sad

He sees all of our emotions

Whether good or even bad

He knows when we are angry

It's not hard for him to see

But the time he watches most

Is when we're filled with jealousy

For he can see inside our hearts

Down to the very root

You can't hide from him

Your real self

He will always find the truth

The truth that you are harboring

He can see into your soul

You won't fool him

Not for a moment

He knows your all

He knows your whole

He does not like deception

You can't manipulate this man

Yet he'll sit back and simply watch you

Just to see how much you can

Try to hide behind a veil

Seeing if it takes you far

He'll step in and he'll unmask you

And show the world just who you are

You cannot run away from him

There's nowhere that you can go

You can lie to all the others

But this man will always know

Know the voice inside your heart

And the voice inside your head

You have free will

So choose it wisely

For there's a place you will be led

And when he leads you to it

You will have to learn

For the gift that he has waiting

Is a gift that you must earn

And to earn it, he will test you

And here's your answer key

It has to do with all connection

And how with others you will be

Will you show them kindness

Apply the Golden Rule

Or only care about yourself

Will you live your life a fool

Will you even have a conscience

To steer you on your course

Or take advantage of all others

And live on with no remorse

He's not asking that much of you

Just that you would love

And you would feel

He doesn't want it to be "put on"

He wants to see if it is real

Does it exist instinctively?

Allow it to control your ways?

Or only show it around others

When you're seeking of their praise?

So do not marvel in your treachery

Even if in jest

He performs his tasks, of many

And at each, he is the best

But he will not be tried

He's not testing you for fun

He's selective of his chosen

And they'll stand with him

When he's done

So he will hold a place for you

And to there, with him, you'll go

Or be given to the shadow

The one who lives far down below

The shadow loves the darkness

The shadow lives in flame

And if you find yourself amongst him

You'll only have yourself to blame

You could be, up, in the clouds

In the blue sky that's above

But there's a path that you must follow

And the only path is...

Author's Note

Leviathus Fortes
This was supposed to be a picture book that taught children about different cloud formations.

It was about a smiling man in the clouds. At least, that was the original concept.

All based on a shape that I saw in the sky one afternoon.

"There's a man up in the sky. I spotted him one day. He was laying back, reclining, with a smile upon his face..."

As I continued from this line, the story melded itself into something else entirely.

It was flowing out so fluently that I could not ignore what I was writing.

Sometimes the story that we first begin, then return to at a later time, turns into the story that it was always supposed to become.
