Yarn AgainA Story by Leviathus Fortes
Kailey was a cat, a calico
Who was born inside a barn This is Kailey's story of the day She found a ball of yarn On one early day, I think in June When the a/c broke The door had been left open So there'd be no sweaty folk Kailey caused no commotion When she wondered in What she saw, made her happy Upon her face, there was a grin Kailey liked hide and seek She'd play all over the farm This place was new, it was different Inside, that set off an alarm All the places she could hide All the games that could be played Then for a moment, she reflected On the home in which she stayed The barn had many animals Some were little, some were big Different shapes and different colors Even one who liked to dance a jig The very best of friends were they The ones she'd always had before But she could not deny, what she did spy Laying on the floor As she got closer to it She swung her paw with a light SMACK It rolled forward, just a little And then it rolled right back It was soft and it was squishy It moved most every which a way It was round and it was pretty It was nothing like the hay Sky blue was its color At least, that's what she saw So she decided, she would go for it And she raised her other paw With both paws now presented Kailey grabbed on and held tight Examining profusely She would not let it from her sight She batted it around the room From one end to the next This object was unusual It had her most perplexed It rolled toward the wall When it hit, gave a bounce Rolled its way back to Kailey And upon it, she did pounce Kailey heard someone calling And out the door she went It was now dark outside The whole day had been spent Kailey gathered with the other cats As food was emptied from a can Fish was the main dish, for dinner And of fish, she was a fan After she finished eating She began to settle down Although relaxed, her tummy full Upon her face she wore a frown Now was the time for resting The stars were in the sky She snuggled up inside the hay And then she closed her eyes A smile came across her face As she drifted away The repairs would not be finished For at least, another day She'd get lost inside a dream Of her very special friend She knew by this time tomorrow She'd see that ball of yarn again © 2015 Leviathus FortesAuthor's Note
