Hummingbird

Hummingbird

A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

Walk in a straight line
No, that's not my style
You can be like the other sheep

Or rather, in a herd of cattle
Mindlessly you roam
But you'll all be slaughtered one day

A chicken with its head cut off
Run around, run around
There's nowhere you are going

You place your head under the sand
Only an ostrich is that naive
But then again, look who I'm talking to

Can you see a hummingbird
Count how many times it flaps its wings
Didn't think so - moving on

And by that, I mean away from here
In case that wasn't clear
Put into the simplest of terms

I've had my fill of ignorance
And it's spreading like a plague
I'll keep my mind intact

Majestically, I take my leave
Never to return
I am the hummingbird
