A Conversation

A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

I walk away and I take with me
All the things that will set me free
Alone again and it's plain to see
This relationship was never meant to be

It's like a dream that I've awakened from
Yet I feel I'm still asleep
New life was given from these engagements
These memories I shall keep

Options are aplenty
So we can find just who we are
Will we fizzle, will we burn out
Or do we shine just like a star

Staples hold together paper
As hearts and minds do bind us all
Pure engagement and elation
Protect the pride before the fall

Each being shares a connection
If you watch closely, you will see
Observation, eyes wide open
Then at last, you've found key

Words are captured in the wind
For when you speak, they do catch air
They are spoken from the heart and mind
Treat with respect and show them care

All these words that you are speaking
From your own self are they true
Are you speaking them from instinct
Or is God speaking them for you

As I look around, I ponder
Is anything for real
A hope is there for harmony
As I search forever still

A little relaxation
A pleasant peace of mind
When I finally reached the answers
What is the truth that I shall find

Continue, should I, searching
Relentless to a fault
Or lock away, ignored, forever
Secured inside, behind a vault

Wandering around are we
Because we're not quite sure where to go
Our minds confused, always in question
Fighting are we, all for our soul

Lost inside the shuffle, shuffle with the lost
Will our true selves reawaken
To retrieve, what is the cost

Unlikely will we notice
Until observant shall we be
Trapped inside our minds, like a prison
But upon rescue, be set free

Tell me, is it true
Is anything for real
Time still passes by
Yet, I feel it's standing still

You have not seen what I have seen
Nor have you heard what I have heard
For there are lessons, I have taught
Over many a spoken word

Perhaps one day, you'll find me
Do not speculate, nor you assume
I am ever knowing, always
One day, I will come and find you, true

A 1000 words I'd like to say
But I will not speak
Questions are there, all around
Yet answers I won't seek

Move on shall I, from day to day
Letting all things go
Bathe in the warmth of sight and sound
In time, for me, they'll show

Why come to me with your issues
With your woes, you come to call
If you choose not to use more words
Why come to me at all

All bring to me their problems
They always want to share
When I ask them to elaborate
It seems they do not care

Where are we going
Do we really know
That question, it boggles the mind

To live in the moment
Forever dreaming
Not knowing just what we will find

How do they do it
The idealistic dreamers
To achieve what they wish to fulfill

They dream, they wish it
They live it, they breathe it
All due to their Hercule Will

Am I a dreamer
Am I one of those
All will be revealed in due time

I've so many questions
Yet seen no clear answers
I am wrapped inside words, inside rhyme

If I can't be me
Am I truly free
My mind would like to know

Yet you keep me here
Encased in fear
It's time to let me go

We've had our time
It's over now
I have to say goodbye

Try being you
Instead of me
Spread out your wings and fly

The life is slowly fading out
The darkness very near
Thoughts are racing through the head
Of joy, but also fear

Where is it that we're going
No one knows for sure
An emptiness resides now
Down to our very core

The life we've lived, in question
Fulfilled, both you and I
Our dreams, our aspirations
We accomplished, did we try

Look forever out the window
Walk through the open gate
Were we filled with joyful happiness
Did we ever once elate

Embracing that, our past life
As the future comes our way
Did we honor or respect
The one life that had to pay

Do I have a face that says talk to me
Tell me all your woes
Share your stories with me
Is it a trust that I impose

You say it's my eyes, they are inviting
I never would have guessed
Your eyes are the windows to your soul
And your soul is truly blessed

So take with you a story
And remember how it goes
All that matters, is that it's written
Even if you write in prose

A memory always with you
I understand the pain you feel
You must keep faith inside your heart
And know my love for you is real

You will never be alone
Of that, I guarantee
It just takes trust, that's all I ask
For your soul to be set free
