Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne

A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

I admit, I've never liked this phrase
And what it really means
Yet it's said by nearly everyone
Each and every time

Am I to forget acquaintances
All who come into my life
Whether good or even bad
They helped to make me

I say forgiveness is the better thing
Even when it hurts
Of course, nothing's forgotten
Emotions drive themselves by this

But you ask of me to rid myself
Of encounters I have held
But it gave to me experience
I don't throw those things away

Then you ask for resolution
Never have I made
It contradicts your very phrasing
And what you ask of me

I will not make a promise
That I don't intend to keep
And I can't break a promise
If a resolution is not made

Don't tell me what to do
I know who I am inside
Yet you show up every year
With your same tired song

I keep one resolution
And I always shall
If there's one thing I will forget
It is you, dear Auld Lang Syne
