Beans and Cornbread

Beans and Cornbread

A Story by Leviathus Fortes

There was an old mill
With a stream nearby
And a little house with a family

The cow in the barn
Was already milked
And butter was being churned

The grinding wheel moved
Crushing some corn
To make the bread

Out in the field
People picked beans
Of every color and size

Cotton was picked
Just a few days before
And all were wearing their fines

Pies were spread out on the table
With fresh lemonade
Some coffee, some milk and some tea

A bell had been rang
Everyone had sat down
It was dinnertime
