A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

I light a match, to start a fuse
And then soon I'll watch it burn

Bathe in the warmth that it will give me
To feel happier inside

I and not one to start issue
But realize you have forced my hand

I'm tearing down all that was left there
I take all my years with me

You thought you were entitled
Just because you walked through that door

This was my life, my creation
And you have no claim to that

I will leave behind nothing
Merely cinder and the ash

I'll keep only good memories
And you can rustle through the pile

That's all that you're deserving of
I'll clean what I did keep

Yours will stay burnt, remained tarnished
Mine looks like it's brand new

A lesson I am teaching you
Perhaps one day you'll understand

But right now, you've made it clear
Without remorse, you have no soul

And I stand here, on solid ground
You're all walking on eggshells

Careful not to break the floor beneath you
Less it disappear, you'll trip and fall

A very simple melody
Now plays inside my head

And when you need someone to listen
You'll realize my violin has gone away

I will never, to my best ability
Stop helping those in need

I'm not about the money
A person matters more to me

I embrace exactly who I am
You cannot mimic that

It comes from instinct, deep inside
You either have it or you don't

So go ahead and try
You'll still be second rate

There is only one me, I am right here
Enjoy your lack of identity
