Altered

Altered

A Poem by Leviathus Fortes

Broken dreams, You’ve changed my future

Now a new one I must make

It was there, So ripe and ready

But you had to have your way

Resent, I won’t, I’m not that type

I’ll take the high road and forgive

You do not understand, What it is you’ve done to me

A once in a lifetime chance had come along

A path I wished to walk upon

Now it has exited from my life

Does it hurt? It always will

Yet I find I am at peace

I know what happened to the half

The one you drove away

To know this brings me happiness

For wings were spread and learned to fly

To see that future in their making

I have found to that subject, a sense of pride

Wishing well for all eternity

And for greatness to be achieved

Thoughts recycle, now just memory

Of what was there that could have been

“What if” in its essence

Thus is life, so I carry on

Fix this, I can, just watch me

I know not how long that it will take

But I am ready, I know I have to try

For my soul to be at peace
