The Giving LightA Poem by Andrew DurbinWit hThanksgiving just around the corner, I felt inspired.Tis the time when all manner of changing Comes to greet us at this time of year. With the color of leaves rearranging, And their beauty which one should revere. And the smiles and food are exchanging With our friends and our families dear.
From afar they will all come together, To take part in a wonderful feast. And no matter the wind or the weather, They will welcome the great and the least. And the blood of them all is a tether That stretches from the west to the east.
There are siblings, the father, and mother. There are cousins, and uncles, and aunts. There are friends, who all sit with each other. They are glad to be given this chance To give thanks to be with one another And the time that this gathering grants.
Now the food is passed all round the table. There is turkey, and stuffing, and pie. Each one fills their own plate as their able, And they fill up their glass if it’s dry. And their talk seems to stop and disable The bad things of the past year gone by.
Oh, Thanksgiving is quickly returning, And the day of the week’s nearly here. How I eagerly wait with a yearning For the family, friends and the cheer. May we all keep the giving light burning As we should through the rest of the year. © 2020 Andrew Durbin |
