Fight, Flight, or InactionA Poem by PoseidonDescribes the struggle to deal with one's demons and racing thoughts. To fear the dark is an interesting concept. Because it’s not the removal of light that causes fear. It starts with panic from the loss of your senses. The primal gut-wrenching urge that your body has Screaming that you have become vulnerable. The true terror lies just beyond the shadows. These threats are not psychical Usually It comes from your own imagination. Adrenaline seeps it way through your veins. Sweat begins to bead off your body and clings to your clothing. Senses ironically become intensely heightened Maybe even over sensitive to your current surroundings. Smallest changes Causing Permanent reactions However, after a few moments you rationalize Convince yourself that your darkest fears do not lie just beyond your sight. The problem begins when you feel this panic in broad daylight. When demons begin to step out into the light. The feeling of intense fear telling you that you are not strong enough to deal with what lies in front of you. That at some point a final darkness will set in. I’m not ready for that final darkness , but I do wonder what lies behind it. To wonder if in the darkness lies my worst fears or will I feel peace. Would I ever go there myself? No Numbing these feelings doesn’t help That doesn’t satisfy the craving though So, the demons just stay caged While I stay on auto pilot Skipping to the daily grind of life. Leaving me feeling hollow and complacent To things that should be meet with emotion. The demons can only come out so often So, while stuck in the cage they wreak havoc. Trying to ignore the rattles of the cage Will only be meet with earthquakes And how does one stop earthquakes? © 2018 Poseidon |
