Soul

Soul

A Poem by PorterColeman

And from within that dampened canyon
of barren trees
whose insectile branches
curled upwards
as if to beg the moonlit sky
a terrifying figure stood
unmoving

And if one were to approach this figure
which of course
no one has ever dared
they would find
within the menacing shadow
that draped its face
a pair of sympathetic eyes
that undeniably illuminated
with lonely torment
and heartache
