River

River

A Poem by Popsie

There flows a river
Inside my mind
Surrounded by trees
It has been there
Forever

The current fluctuated
Sometimes strong
Sometimes weak
The trees too changed
Leaves waving proudly
Or branches hanging dejectedly

The river was doing well
The water was clear
The fish were happy
The trees were tall and green

But now
The river is slowly drying up
The trees have given up hope
They are wilting, falling, dying.

My river is leaving me
And I don’t know what to do.

I love the idea behind this, the river that has been forever flowing, strong vibrant, the trees tall and green and then it all slowly drying up, dying. This could easily be a metaphor for dementia.

The current fluctuated, sometimes strong sometimes weak...a well structured and beautiful poem..
