The Dragonfly

NOD, or Nikolius Ortto Demus as he is otherwise known, is a main character from the Riana triology. He was inspired by a lone dragonfly who decided to pay me a visit one wet Saturday afternoon, and remains my favourite character from the books. In fact I

 

The Dragonfly

 

I see your beauty in the rays,

Your colours take my breath away,

Each glimmer of your speeding flight,

Cannot be captured just by sight,

 

On wings of lace you glide and flee,

Strength and grace in harmony,

An ancient creature seeking prey,

In nature’s hands your secrets lay,

 

You hover by my window pane,

The sunlight playing through the rain,

And then to my complete surprise,

You settle right before my eyes,

 

I watch you closely taking note,

My hand placed lightly at my throat,

For in my soul I feel your power,

My writers mind at once on fire,

 

The time moves on, yet you remain,

And stirring deep within my brain,

A magic I just can’t deny,

Sees more than just a dragonfly,

 

For in this moment I can see,

A vision of all you will be,

And as I sit I find I must,

Now write of Nikolius.

I love the flow of the work. I'm not sure of the rhyme scheme though. AABB is more suited to light verse and humorous poetry. Your words are much deeper than the rhyme carries. Have you thought about something a bit more complex like aBcB? Just something to think about.
