Joey and Kate, a newlywed couple, decide to go on a road trip to Florida. The couple finds themselves lost and argue about the map.
“Give me that map!” I spat at my husband, grabbing the map.
“We all know women can't read maps!” He pulled the map away from my grasp.
“You are so stubborn, Joey!” I tried to grab the map again, but try as I might, i was not quick enough. Joey. I had just married him three months ago, and we had decided to drive down to Florida for a vacation in the sun.
“Quiet, Kate!” he snapped, “ I know what I'm doing!” I sighed. Men!
“Admit it,” I crossed my arms, “You're lost.”
Joey stared at me as if I were crazy. “I'm not lost.” Once a thickheaded boy, always a thickheaded boy. I rolled my eyes. It was obvious he was lost. “I'm not lost,” he repeated.
“Then where are we?” I pouted at Joey angrily. Joey blinked.
“Um...Georgia...I think.”
“That's kinda obvious, considering we passed the 'Welcome to Georgia' sign a half hour ago!” I threw my hands in the air. Joey remained silent as I stared intently at him. “Just give me the map,” I whispered into his ear. I eased the map out of his fingers. “Joey,” I smirked.
“Huh?” Joey looked at me, a bit confused at my sudden glee. I stared at the map.
“The map...” I paused, “You've been reading it upside down.”
“So THAT'S why it didn't make any sense!” Joey began to laugh. “I read the directions wrong, and now look what I've done! We're completely off track!”
“That's okay,” I playfully hugged Joey, “I forgive you.” We were both in peals of laughter by now and Joey was blushing furiously.
“I guess you were right.” Joey protested, “But I wasn't lost!”
Joey has such stubborn ways, but his ways are all in love, in due time,
roads, the ones ahead of them literally and figuratively, the maps they've been before,
and I was saying something in my head when reading this piece which has great narrative voice, crisp and to the point, not missing any beats of a good conversation made come to life by your always perfect skills in dialogue, that if Joey continues to play the broken record of stubbornness, then it is only fair in reality
that there will be no music, then...
This is cute. The way you tell this small glimpse of a part of their roadtrip. And what could be bettter than a newlywed couple to travel together, especially to the hearts that had to get over some bumps in the road. I'm glad to know they're not off track.
=)
Great job!
(You know I always love to read your writing. Where did you go? I haven't seen you for so long, your work, your poetry, that wonderful imagination you have!)
