Shattered Like Glass

Shattered Like Glass

A Poem by PoisonedFlower
"

In writing class, we were asked to write a poem based on Langston Hughes's "Dream Deferred", and this is what I came up with!

"

Shards of shredded silver,

Bits of broken clouds,

The reeking smell of poison,

Scattered upon the ground.

Screaming all around me,

Wailing in the night.

Voices crying in despair

When a fractured dream takes flight.

Tears of pain are all that’s known,

Stabs of misery in the heart.

All hope is burned up and lost,

When dreams are torn apart.

Darkness breaks through every shield,

Sunlight always hides.

And dreams are never meant to be

Through my haunted eyes.

this is exceptionally good! i particularly like how you use "dream" in a variety of ways, and also how it starts how graphic and literal and transforms into something more metaphorical and emotional
