An Alien's LegacyA Poem by PoetsmightThe theme is set in the future where an alien is travelling several light years to find traces of existence of other creatures in the universe, read to find out what happened next.It had been almost a million light years long. I had been maneuvering my spacecraft, steady and strong. I was on a mission to look out for other occupants of space And to make a friendly bond with an entirely another race. The solar system was my target, I was heading there, Looking for a planet with land, water and air. The planets were all revolving around the sun. And there I was, striving hard to get my mission done. I then noticed a planet that was blue and moderate in size. I could feel some traces of life, to my surprise. Then as my spaceship landed, I heard some crinkles and crackles. The place was deserted as though it had witnessed several battles. I picked up the trash below and my translator read it: “Plastic”. They were everywhere: extending from the Arctic to the Antarctic! These plastics were singing a tale of the demise of all earthlings. It brought in me, a state of chaotic and frantic feelings. I gradually understood what the creatures might have faced. This dark part of their history can never be erased. The bottles and bags invaded their lands and seas, And then led to the outbreak of a deadly disease. The fishes and whales, all suffocated to death. The animals that ingested plastic, breathed their last breath. The soil turned infertile and the harvest became meagre. The children were left extremely unhealthy and weaker. Meanwhile, there began a war for clean water and food. Clearly, to the human race, it meant no good. On one front, people were sacrificing their lives battling. On the other front, drought and famine were rattling. This way, the last human departed at least a hundred years ago. To the contrast, these plastic demons still lie scattered below. The humans should have thought for twice and acted wise. This way they could have avoided the doomsday in disguise. I now have a strong message to deliver to my civilization. We must stop using persistent pollutants and jump to action! Else, likewise, another alien stopping by our planet many years after, Would discover how foolishly we paved the way to our own disaster.
