Kismet

Kismet

A Poem by Hailey Mae
"

You saw me coming before I saw you.

"

Kismet

I was not ready for you,

but you demanded of me the time that was nowhere on my watch.

I didn’t go looking for the happening that was,

But I think somewhere deep down you knew long before me.

You see,

You were so fragile in your weakness,

That it left me beguiled.

As you laid there pulling out every stop to survive.

Far too weak to land a mark,

But through your shallow breaths,

determined to undermine kismet.

In the natural it screamed, I come to take you.

But a cry within the soul longed for something greater.

Whether it be because you felt me,

Or I saw you.

Something, indeed, was happening.

I sought to comfort you,

bought puppy formula for you.

Both of us jumping that band wagon.

We were going to kick this thing!

Whimpers barely audible.

I think it was then and there we made this contract.

Fated partners in time.

Today, tomorrow, month, and year.

You took a turn for the worse,

Even after the attempts to hydrate everyway I knew how.

Stubborn as they get,

I wasn’t going to accept it.

The way you wiggled around,

far from strong,

told me you weren’t going to either.

Will power can defy gravity.

More importantly a pure prayer.

24/7 for that whole week I’d intermediately come to and fro,

Due to adult obligations I had to leave ye there.

At least you had your mother and brother.

Deep down I knew they were rooting for you too.

My heart had been won over by a baby pug,

a breed I said I’d never come to own.

But through your survival made me a believer in personalized miracles.

In fact, if I understood it, you altered my future.

But in the best possible way.

When something is meant to be, it simply is.

No more, no less.

I love you my puggy wuggly.

In my heart will be our story,

till the end of our times,

and I thank the Lord for that.
