The ravages of cancer

Written because someone close has cancer

This poem is dedicated to someone I have known for years and is battling stage 3/4 colon cancer .

Its In The Dna.
Something went wrong in that DNA chain ,
The miracle of life would fail again .
That “thing “ struck, doing what it does best ,
Destroying lives after that first biopsy test .
We don’t ask for that or deserve it to grow so well,
We don’t want it inside us that aweful “C “ cell.
It can be “ random “, “ways of living “ or “genetic” ,
But it’s catastrophic end result is so pathetic .
Where once stood a proud person doing well,
Cancer reaks it’s havoc leaving a deseased shell .
With all the supossed funding and research being plied ,
Why is it that so many people have died ?.
It strikes silently ,passed stages 1 to 4 ,
That’s when the body is under attack , and going to war .
Sometimes it’s silent and we don’t know it’s there ,
We carry on our lives without a care .
While all the time it’s growing , laying down roots ,
Spreading in our lymph nodes and putting down its new shoots .
What if we could only harness it’s power of to produce ,
Grow new body parts and be of some use .
But no , it’s nature gone wrong , taken an evolutionary dead end ,
Confined us to the graveyard because that’s what it did intend .
Im sure to scientists its a very interesting case so it’s big words they use ,
With fancy ones like
Ablation, lymphoblasts and
Metastasize that just confuse .
Finally it just doesn’t matter what we do in life ,
Take it easy ,work hard ,relax or have trouble and strife.
We say that infamous line “what will be will be “ ,
And for some that’s oh so true when our loved ones get struck down with “the big C”
