Pause for thought


Today I thought to pause ,
To take stock , to think of the hurt my feelings cause .
It isn’t that I’m upset or even sad ,
It isn’t that I regret the life i’v had .
No , it’s not that I’m ill or fed up or down,
Or that I am sad and carry a frown.
It’s just that I wonder how things might have turned out ,
Had I been a better person , more confident ,free from doubt.
I ‘ve had a good life , brought up children and had good health,
I haven’t been poor , but been comfortable but not had great wealth .
But I haven’t moved mountains , wrought changes or done anything great ,
I haven’t invented anything , saved lives but feel my life hasn’t really started or got out of the starting gate .
I have so much more offer , to achieve , to give ,
I have just been ordinary , done nothing special with the gift of life to live .
Shouldn’t we do more , be extrordinary , make a difference , make life good ?,
Can I start All over again , be persistent, important , because I would if I could.
But I’m getting old , retired and ill of health ,
But my mind still works and ideas flow , that is my wealth .
So I have faith that there is more for us to achieve
But not until my next life after this one that I leave .
